‘Door to Door’
In this project, I take a door and subject it to a process of transformation, breaking it down and turning it into paper. This paper is then used to reconstruct the same door, which is placed back into its original doorway. The extended process, ending in a familiar form, mirrors the act of returning home. Whether we leave for a long time or only briefly, there is often an expectation of return. Even as home changes over time, it remains a constant point of reference.
The fragile and delicate nature of the paper challenges this idea of home as a place of safety and security. A paper door cannot protect or contain in the way a functional door can, prompting a reconsideration of what makes a space feel like home, and whether that sense of security is as stable as we assume.
