This project documents my abstention from smoking for one day: a record of my thoughts and urges as they arose. It takes the form of a ten page concertina style book, with seven pages each containing a thought experienced during that day.

The experience is translated into a physical object using the familiar structure of cigarette packaging and a cigarette itself as visual references.

Rather than functioning as a persuasive or instructional piece, the work invites identification. Smokers are encouraged to reflect on their own habits through engagement with another person’s experience, while the piece also exists as both an artist book and a sculptural object.
